antique-brass-wall-match-holder-with-striker
Antique Brass Wall Match Holder with Striker

This is a brass match holder made to hang on the wall near a hearth or stove. The hexagonal pocket held loose matches, and the cross-hatched underside is a striker, so you could light one without taking it down. I like the pierced heart in the crest, which is a lot of decoration for something so practical.

[d]Dimensions | 5 in. H x 3 in. W x 1.5 in. Any patina that built up over time has been removed from the front, so the finish is bright and fairly uniform. The back and the inside of the pocket are noticeably darker and duller.

There are grey patches on the back along the edges of the pocket. They appear to be solder, and I can't say if they are original construction, wear, or an old repair. The front of the pocket shows a dent and a few small marks, and there are light scuffs to the crest. The inside is clean apart from dust.

There are no marks anywhere on the piece.
