This is a genuinely early piece and it shows its age honestly. Every drawer front has splitting in the veneer and solid, and both side panels have splitting as well, most visible as a vertical run down the proper-left side. The top drawer has had earlier repair work, including a patched veneer corner visible in the detail photos. The mahogany surface has been worked at some point and carries a later finish; the method could not be determined, so it is described that way rather than called original. None of the drawer locks function, there is no working key to my knowledge, and the keyhole escutcheon covers are missing. The marble top has yellow staining toward the back edge and the usual edge wear, and there is splitting in the wood lip that surrounds the marble. Dimensions are approximate. Species is assessed as mahogany veneer from the figure and color, with oak and pine secondary.
