The lid mirror is cracked, clearly visible in the interior photos. The velvet varies across the piece: some panels have faded from deep red to a lighter coral, and there is nap loss and thinning throughout, heaviest on the exposed top and front. The painted surface has an overall age crackle and there is paint flaking and loss in areas across the carved borders, consistent with painted tramp art of this age. Some of the fine notched tips along the edges are chipped or lost, expected for the medium. The applied gilt-metal ornaments are all present and hold well. The brass handle, lion-mask lock, and cast paw feet are all in place; the lock is present but there is no key. The interior velvet shows wear and light staining. The wood structure is sound and the lid opens and closes properly.
