The brass shows real wear through the finish to lighter brass at the candle cups and the lobed drip pans, most visible at the high points, with darkened patina in the recesses and light green spotting inside a few of the cups. The two candle arms are decorative and do not light. Lighting comes from two sockets mounted on a crossbar beneath the shade, wired with a later cord, US plug, and inline switch. The bulbs shown in the photographs are for demonstration only and are not included. There is a separated seam running vertically down one side of the shade, visible inside and out. The cream painted interior has foxing and rust-colored spotting throughout. The red exterior has surface scratches, a few small paint losses and dings, and softening to the gilt line banding. All of this is consistent with age and use and is shown closely in the photographs.
