Frederic Farrar's St. Winifred's, the boarding school novel he wrote in the vein of his better known Eric, all loyalty and temptation and the moral weather of Victorian boyhood. This is the Eleventh Edition from A. and C. Black, Edinburgh, 1879, with marbled endpapers, marbled edges, and an engraved frontispiece. What makes this copy personal is the presentation inscription dated 31st August 1881, a father's gift to his son. A handsome decorative volume that reads as well on a shelf as it does in the hand.

The full calf binding is solid and the boards are firm, with rubbing to the extremities and some wear along the joints consistent with age. The gilt tooling on the spine remains crisp and the red morocco label is clean and legible. Marbled endpapers are bright and the marbled edges show well. Internally the text block is tight and the pages are clean overall, with scattered foxing to the preliminaries and throughout, most noticeable on the endpapers and the blanks. The frontispiece and title vignette are present and clear. A presentation inscription in ink appears on the front free endpaper, dated August 1881, partially legible. A very good decorative copy.
