This antique European ceramic panel features a finely detailed biblical scene rendered in sepia-toned transferware, inspired by early engraved print sources. The composition depicts the moment described in 2 Kings 2:11, when the prophet Elijah is taken up to heaven in a fiery chariot, shown here rising through swirling clouds above a tranquil pastoral landscape.
The scene is layered thoughtfully, with a robed figure in the foreground gesturing upward, anchoring the divine event within an earthly setting of trees, rolling paths, and distant architecture. This balance of calm countryside and celestial drama is characteristic of late 18th to early 19th century devotional imagery intended for private homes rather than ecclesiastical spaces.
The ceramic panel is set within a dark stained wooden frame that complements the warmth of the transfer print and gives the piece a finished, display-ready presence. At just over six inches square, this work is small in scale but rich in narrative, making it ideal for shelf styling, gallery walls, or layering into a curated interior.
The ceramic surface shows age-appropriate wear consistent with antique transferware of this period, including areas of discoloration, light surface abrasion, and a patina developed over time. Minor areas of image softness and surface texture variation are present and should be expected given the age and method of production. All antique and vintage items are shipped from our warehouse in Bluffdale, Utah. Each piece is carefully packed by hand using archival materials and custom crating when necessary.
Shipping costs are calculated at checkout based on the size and weight of the item. Local pickup is available at the AMD Warehouse.
All sales of antique and vintage items are final due to their unique, one-of-a-kind nature. Illuminé candles and The Collector's Guide may be returned within 14 days of delivery if unopened and in original condition.
If your piece arrives damaged, please photograph the damage immediately (including packaging), contact us within 48 hours at austynmariedesign@gmail.com, and do not discard any packaging.
