English mahogany bucket of navette form, brass bound and fitted with its original brass swing handle and removable brass liner. The shape is what makes these worth seeking out. The rim sweeps high at both ends and dips low in the middle, an almond outline that sets it apart from the plain round buckets of the same period. The liner lifts right out, so it works just as well as a planter, a log holder by the fireplace, or an umbrella stand by the door.

Condition

The bucket is in good antique condition with the wear you would expect from a piece of this age. The mahogany holds a warm color with light surface marks and small nicks across the staves. There is a visible seam line where two staves meet, which is normal for coopered construction and not a split through the body. The brass bands, handle, and mounts are all present and secure, with age-appropriate tarnish and a few small dents and scratches. The removable brass liner shows tarnish, minor denting, and surface marks inside and out consistent with use. The handle swings freely and the liner lifts out and seats back in cleanly.
