Victorian Rosewood Dome-Top Scent Bottle Box, Circa 1850 to 1870. The case is a lovely thing on its own. Figured rosewood veneer with full brass stringing along every edge and corner, mother-of-pearl inlay centered on the domed lid, and a hinged interior tray above three fitted bottle compartments lined in the original purple velvet. The three glass scent bottles are missing, which is noted honestly in the condition and reflected in the price.

The box is in good antique condition overall. The rosewood veneer is intact across all exterior surfaces with no lifting or losses visible. The brass stringing along the edges and corners is complete and in good order. The mother-of-pearl inlay on the lid is present but shows a chip to one edge and some age-related discoloration. The diamond-form brass escutcheon on the front is a replacement, not original to the box. The hinges are original and function smoothly. The lock mechanism is intact but no key is present. The interior retains its original purple velvet lining in the lower bottle compartments, heavily worn and stained with age but structurally present. The hinged upper tray has lost its lining and shows bare card. The three original glass scent bottles are absent. The base covering is a later felt, worn, with losses and white scuff marks visible.
