This little ebonized stand once held a glass dome over something worth showing off, a stuffed bird, a spray of wax flowers, a small clock. The lathe turned foot and flat disc top are simple, but the wear tells the real story. Years of setting a glass dome down and lifting it back up have worn the black finish through to the lighter wood right at the rim.

Construction
Lathe turned in a stepped plinth profile: a flat disc top, a short cylindrical neck, and a wider molded, flared foot.

The black ebonized finish appears original to the piece, based on the wear pattern rather than confirmed by testing. It has worn through to a lighter toned wood at the rim in several places, concentrated exactly where the edge of a glass dome would have rested and been lifted on and off over the years. This is age appropriate wear from intended use, not damage, and it runs consistently around the rim rather than sitting in one isolated spot. The exact medium of the black finish, whether paint, stain, or a shellac type lacquer, has not yet been confirmed, and this row will be updated once that's established. The surface also carries light general scuffing and fine surface scratches consistent with handling and age. No losses, cracks, or structural instability. The piece is stable and sound.
