Art Deco Silverplated Letter Rack with Checkerboard Enamel, Circa 1930

A silverplated brass letter rack with black and white checkerboard enamel, circa 1920s to 1935, sourced in England. The rectangular base is inlaid with alternating black and cream vitreous enamel panels framed by a beaded silverplated border, and two arched wire dividers rise from the center to create three slots for correspondence. The checkerboard pattern and the crisp geometric border place this squarely in the Art Deco period. No maker's marks are present, which is typical for English silverplated desk accessories of this era, as hallmarking requirements applied to sterling silver rather than plate.
The rack is in good condition with honest age-appropriate wear. The silverplate shows tarnishing and surface oxidation across the base plate and wire dividers, consistent with age. The enamel panels are intact with no chips or losses visible. The beaded border retains good definition. The black velvet base pad is present but shows wear and some fraying at the edges. No dents, no structural damage, and the wire dividers are straight and secure.
