A bouquet of cream, red-orange and yellow roses, a pansy and a pendant fuchsia, painted in oil on a black ground in a shaped, scalloped outline. The raised, thickly loaded highlights on the cream rose are the best part up close. It's unsigned and unidentified, which is usual for small decorative flower panels like this, many of which were painted for the trade. The black ground gives it the look of Victorian japanned decoration.
Antique condition consistent with age, with visible wear. The black ground has fine craquelure and flaking across the surface, and there is general rubbing, mostly toward the edges. The most noticeable damage runs along the right scalloped edge, where the black has flaked away and a pale grey layer shows beneath. There are smaller losses along the bottom edge and a few more at the lower left corner. The flowers themselves hold well, though some lifting is visible near the edges. The panel is light in weight, and the reverse is dark with staining and spotting. It carries no labels, stamps or inscriptions. The iron hanging ring is firmly attached, and I can't say whether it is original to the panel. The panel is sold unframed. Please review all photographs closely, as they form part of this description.
Shipping & Returns
All antique and vintage items are shipped from our warehouse in Bluffdale, Utah. Each piece is carefully packed by hand using archival materials and custom crating when necessary.
Shipping costs are calculated at checkout based on the size and weight of the item. Local pickup is available at the AMD Warehouse.
Furniture is the exception. Because of size and weight, furniture shipping is quoted separately rather than calculated at checkout. Send a DM on Instagram or email austynmariedesign@gmail.com for a quote, or arrange your own shipping from the warehouse.
All sales of antique and vintage items are final due to their unique, one-of-a-kind nature. Illuminé candles and The Collector's Guide may be returned within 14 days of delivery if unopened and in original condition.
If your piece arrives damaged, please photograph the damage immediately (including packaging), contact us within 48 hours at austynmariedesign@gmail.com, and do not discard any packaging.
