A mid-century English oak trophy bowl by Ryecraft Woodware of Stapleford, Nottinghamshire. The form is a turned oak bowl on a pedestal foot, banded in chrome with a chrome shield mounted to the front for engraving. The shield is blank, which means the bowl was either never presented or kept as stock. The oak shows a dramatic figured grain across the exterior and interior, with concentrated dark eye-knots throughout the field. Ryecraft made domestic oak ware with chrome and silverplate mounts from the 1940s through the 1950s, and pieces with their oval foil label are well documented in the secondary market.
The bowl is in good vintage condition with honest wear consistent with age and use. The chrome rim, shield, and base band are all in place and show light surface wear without pitting or losses. The shield is undamaged and remains blank. The oak shows some shrinkage with slightly wider separations between the staves in places, but there are no chips, cracks, or structural issues. The interior is clean with light surface marks at the center where the bowl is pegged to the pedestal base. The original Ryecraft foil label is intact on the underside.
