Kashan rugs are among the most iconic Persian designs, originating from the historic city of Kashan in central Iran, renowned for its court-quality carpets dating back to the Safavid era (16th–17th c).
-
The floral all-over pattern you see here was popularized in the late 19th and early 20th century, especially for export to Europe and the US, where these rugs became synonymous with luxury and refinement.
-
These designs often symbolized paradise gardens, with their repeated floral motifs suggesting fertility, eternal life, and protection.
Condition:
Overall very good vintage condition with wear consistent with age, use, and natural materials.
Notable condition details:
– Minor wear to fringe at ends; some unevenness and light fraying present (see photos)
– Slight curling to edges and corners, typical of older hand-knotted rugs
– Pile shows gentle compression in select high-traffic areas, but no threadbare spots
– No visible holes, tears, or repairs detected at time of inspection
– Back shows tight, even knot structure with clean weave
– Rug has been professionally cleaned but retains a soft “vintage wool” scent
– Colors remain rich with strong contrast between red field and navy border; pattern remains crisp and well-defined
This rug has been vacuumed, aired and cleaned. It is sold as-is and priced with condition in mind. As with all vintage and antique textiles, minor imperfections, scent, or signs of prior use are to be expected.
