English Copper Planter with Brass Lion Mask Handles

A small English copper trough planter with cast brass lion mask ring handles at each end and four brass lion paw feet. The form is the classic English windowsill size, just twelve inches wide, designed to sit on a sash window ledge with a row of potted herbs or small houseplants. The underside is stamped HAND MADE and MADE IN ENGLAND. The lion mask and paw feet are Regency Revival motifs that ran through English copperwork from the early nineteenth century well into the twentieth, and this piece carries that tradition into the interwar period.
The planter is in honest vintage condition with age-appropriate wear. The copper body is sound and holds its shape, with several dents visible across the sides and rim consistent with long use. The brass lion mask handles and lion paw feet are all in place and secure. The underside shows old solder repair work at the foot attachment points, done at some point during the piece's working life and stable. There is no crack or hole through the body. The exterior is unpolished and shows two zones of color, a brighter copper across the upper half and a darker oxidized tone below, with light surface marks throughout. The interior is unpolished and shows the patina, oxidation, and small spots of green verdigris that come from long use as a planter. The piece is being sold as-found with no cleaning or polishing.
