This is a square silverplate wedding cake stand, the kind used to raise a tiered cake off the table at a reception. The top is engraved with a scrolling floral and shell pattern that frames the cake and shows through around the base. It stands on four cast scrolled feet with a rope-twist border running around the top and bottom edges. At 16 inches square it holds a full bottom tier, and it works just as well now as a footed riser for a dessert table, a floral display, or a styled shelf.
This piece shows honest age and use. The silverplate is heavily tarnished across the top and underside, with a warm cloudy patina and scattered spotting throughout. At the top edges and corners the plate has worn thin and the base metal shows through as a coppery tone, which you can see clearly in the photos. The engraved top has light surface scratches and some dullness to the finish. The underside is unfinished and shows tarnish, scattered oxidation spots, and handling marks, none of which are visible when the piece is in use. At one corner the top edge and its rope-twist border have bent slightly out of true and the seam has opened a little at the join, which you can see in the close-up photos. It is stable and sits flat, but the corner is not perfectly square. All four feet are present and solid. The rope-twist borders are otherwise intact. It has not been repolished or replated, so what you see is the surface as it has aged. A silver polish would brighten it considerably if you want a shinier look, or it can be left as is for a softer antique tone. All antique and vintage items are shipped from our warehouse in Bluffdale, Utah. Each piece is carefully packed by hand using archival materials and custom crating when necessary.
Shipping costs are calculated at checkout based on the size and weight of the item. Local pickup is available at the AMD Warehouse.
All sales of antique and vintage items are final due to their unique, one-of-a-kind nature. Illuminé candles and The Collector's Guide may be returned within 14 days of delivery if unopened and in original condition.
If your piece arrives damaged, please photograph the damage immediately (including packaging), contact us within 48 hours at austynmariedesign@gmail.com, and do not discard any packaging.
